Dubai Advances Affordable Housing Initiatives Under Urban Development Plan 2040

Agreement signed to enhance living conditions for skilled workers in Dubai through affordable housing projects.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Vice President of the Council of Ministers, oversaw the signing of an agreement aimed at the implementation of affordable housing projects.

This agreement includes the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, and Wasl Group.

The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized in a statement on his social media platform that the agreement will facilitate a series of affordable housing projects designed to meet the developmental needs outlined in Dubai's urban planning strategy.

The first phase involves the allocation of six diverse areas across Dubai, covering a total of 1.46 million square meters, aimed at developing over 17,000 housing units.

These units will cater primarily to the skilled workforce from various nationalities employed in vital sectors of both the public and private domains.

The endeavor seeks to provide integrated housing solutions that enhance the quality of life for residents, thereby positioning Dubai as a leading global city for living and working.

The agreement also reflects the executive council's commitment to designating land specifically for affordable housing projects, which supports the goals of urban development and aims to foster vibrant and sustainable communities.

The six designated areas for this project include Al Muhaisnah 1, Al Tawar 1, Al Qusais Industrial 5, and Al Layan 1. The project is expected to optimize land use and provide suitable housing models, with affordable rental options expected to meet the needs of the community.

Matar Al Tayer, Director General of the Roads and Transport Authority and head of the Urban Planning Committee, reaffirmed the leadership’s dedication to prioritizing housing as a critical component of enhancing residents' quality of life.

He articulated that the affordable housing program is a key initiative of the Dubai government that supports the balance between work and social life, coinciding with the UAE's declaration of 2025 as the Year of Community.

Al Tayer stated that the program is essential to achieving the targets of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, ensuring that Dubai remains the best city to live in, where citizens and residents benefit from comprehensive and convenient housing solutions.

Additionally, the program aims to reduce commute times for employees, which may positively affect the cost of living and productivity.

Marwan Bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, noted that the projects under the affordable housing policy reflect the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in building a cohesive and thriving community that affirms Dubai’s standing as the best city globally for living and working.

These projects are designed to enhance overall quality of life within urban and vibrant communities, bolstering residents’ capabilities for sustainable growth.

Hesham Abdullah Al Qassem, CEO of Wasl Group, highlighted the pivotal role of the agreement in actualizing a clear urban vision for the future.

He stated the memorandum underscores the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure sustainable growth and meet the aspirations of Dubai’s residents, thereby contributing to the implementation of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.
