Interior Ministry announces decision pending Cabinet approval, citing legal violations and national interest.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced that its higher committee for nationality, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf Al-Sabah, convened on Wednesday and decided to revoke the citizenship of 1,291 individuals.
This decision is set to be submitted to the Cabinet for final approval.
This latest move continues a trend in recent months, during which the Kuwaiti authorities have revoked the citizenship of tens of thousands of individuals for various reasons.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the ministry provided reasoning behind its decision.
It indicated that nine of the newly affected cases involved individuals holding dual nationality, which is not permitted under Kuwaiti law.
Furthermore, 199 cases were related to the alleged forgery of documents used to obtain citizenship, along with their dependents.
The decision also included the revocation of citizenship from 1,083 individuals based on the assertion of "national interest." These individuals had previously acquired citizenship under the clause concerning "notable services" to the country, alongside their dependents.
This action underscores ongoing discussions regarding citizenship policies in Kuwait, reflecting broader concerns over nationality rights and legal compliance in the Gulf state.
