Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Critiques Government Bureaucracy in the UAE
UAE Vice President highlights best and worst performers in reducing bureaucracy within government agencies.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has publicly addressed the issue of government bureaucracy, revealing the top and bottom three government entities in a recent social media announcement.
In a post on the platform X, he commended the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for their efforts in combating bureaucratic processes.
He noted that these ministries have successfully improved services to enhance the quality of life for citizens and residents.
Conversely, he identified Emirates Post, the General Pension and Social Security Authority, and the Ministry of Sports as the three government entities that have struggled with reducing bureaucratic obstacles.
Sheikh Mohammed characterized government bureaucracy as "the art of turning simple tasks into complicated ones," and criticized the bureaucratic system for prioritizing procedures over outcomes.
He asserted that the existing systems often inhibit individual creativity and external thinking.
He stated, "In government bureaucracy, procedures are more important than results, and paperwork takes precedence over service completion.
The systems and rules are designed to limit innovative thinking."
At the end of 2023, Sheikh Mohammed announced an initiative aimed at zeroing out bureaucracy and minimizing it within government agencies.
He introduced an evaluation system to assess the responsiveness of these entities, ensuring better services and enhanced efficiency in facilitating citizens' and residents' lives.
He concluded by thanking the ministries that excelled in their bureaucratic reforms and emphasized that the negative systems created by ineffective bureaucracy over years can be transformed through bold and swift decisions.
"What bureaucracy creates in terms of poor systems can be changed in days through decisive actions," he stated.
