Former President Donald Trump condemns Russian President Vladimir Putin following intensification of aerial assaults on Ukraine.
Former President
Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, labeling him as having 'gone completely crazy' in light of a widespread air assault on Ukraine executed by Moscow over the recent weekend.
In remarks posted on his social media platform, Trump expressed that Putin's actions have escalated to a point where he is causing unnecessary loss of life, stating that civilian areas in Ukraine are being targeted with missiles and drones 'for no reason at all.'
Furthering his statements, Trump noted his historically good relationship with Putin but suggested that the Russian leader has changed significantly in his approach to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He remarked, 'I have always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but something has happened to him.
He’s certainly gone crazy! He is killing a lot of people needlessly, and I’m not just talking about soldiers.'
Trump asserted that Putin seeks to claim all of Ukraine rather than just a portion, predicting severe consequences for Russia should this ambition continue.
His commentary comes amid Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's criticism of what he perceives as American silence regarding the ongoing Russian offensive, which he argues emboldens Putin's aggression.
In his response, Trump criticized Zelensky's strategy, stating that he is not serving his country well by making such statements.
Trump commented, 'Everything that comes out of his mouth causes problems, and I do not like it, and he better stop.'
The White House had yet to comment on the Russian airstrikes as of Trump’s remarks.
Trump distanced himself from the current conflict, reiterating his long-held belief that the war is primarily a result of actions by Zelensky, Putin, and his White House successor, President
Joe Biden.
In his social media post, he emphasized, 'This war would never have started if I were president.
It’s Zelensky’s war, it’s Putin’s war, and it’s Biden’s war; it’s not Trump’s war.
I’m just helping to extinguish the big, ugly fires that were started by gross incompetence and hatred.'
