U.S. President Donald Trump cautions against attacks on maritime vessels as military operations escalate.
U.S. President
Donald Trump has issued a warning to the Houthi movement in Yemen and Iran, stating that "the coming is greater" if attacks on American ships do not cease.
This statement was made on his platform, Truth Social, on Monday.
Trump explicitly urged the Houthis to stop their assaults on U.S. vessels, declaring, "If you stop firing on American ships, we will stop firing on you.
Otherwise, we will still be at the beginning, and the coming is greater for the Houthis and their sponsors in Iran."
This warning follows a series of U.S. military operations targeting the Houthi group, which has recently resumed a blockade on Israeli vessels transiting the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait, citing retaliation against "Israeli aggression in Gaza."
Since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza, the Houthis have launched numerous rocket attacks aimed at both Israel and maritime targets in the Red Sea, accusing vessels of being associated with Israel, as part of their support for the Palestinian cause.
In a separate development, The Atlantic published documents detailing U.S. military plans for strikes against Houthi strongholds in Yemen earlier this week.
These documents were reportedly shared inadvertently with the publication’s editor.
The Trump administration confirmed on Tuesday that the information was not classified.
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated on Monday that the situation had been addressed from the perspective of the U.S. executive branch.
The U.S., alongside its allies, including the United Kingdom and Israel, has conducted multiple military operations against targets in Yemen during the presidency of former U.S. President
Joe Biden.
