Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company explores a new production site, contingent on U.S. approval.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is evaluating the possibility of establishing an advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This initiative is reportedly subject to approval from the United States government, prompting TSMC to engage in discussions with officials from the administration of President
Donald Trump, as reported by sources familiar with the matter.
The discussions involved TSMC representatives meeting with Steve Chetcuti, the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, and executives from MGX, an Emirati investment company.
These negotiations mark a continuation of talks that initially started during the administration of former President
Joe Biden but were paused at the end of his term.
The establishment of a manufacturing plant in the UAE would represent a significant milestone for TSMC's global expansion strategy.
Notably, a previous report indicated that TSMC had also explored the potential for a production facility in the UAE during Biden's presidency, reflecting the company's ongoing interest in diversifying its manufacturing footprint outside of Taiwan.
