Dubai Leads the UAE in Free Zone Business Licenses

Dubai accounts for 53% of the free zone licenses in the UAE, boosting the emirate's business landscape
Dubai has solidified its position as the leading emirate for free zone business activities in the UAE, boasting an impressive 53% share of the total free zone licenses across the country.

This figure translates to over 112,000 licenses, demonstrating Dubai's pivotal role as a magnet for new businesses and licenses.

Since the onset of 2023, the emirate has attracted approximately 16,000 new licenses, underpinning its robust growth trajectory.

The proliferation of licenses across Dubai's 15 free zones underscores the emirate's dynamic business environment.

Notable zones include Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, Meydan City, Dubai South, Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), Dubai Development Authority, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai World Trade Centre, and the Dubai Airport Free Zone, among others.

These zones cater to a myriad of sectors ranging from technology to commerce, enhancing Dubai's reputation as a global business hub.

The remarkable surge in free zone licenses post-2020 pandemic reflects a growth rate nearing 200%, with the cumulative number of new licenses skyrocketing from less than 70,000 at the beginning of 2021 to over 210,000 by the end of November 2023.

The figures illustrate the resilience and attractiveness of Dubai's free zones, aligning with the strategic vision of the UAE leadership to foster an innovative and business-friendly ecosystem.

Other emirates have also contributed significantly to the UAE's free zone landscape.

Ras Al Khaimah ranks second with approximately 47,000 licenses, while Sharjah follows with 40,500 licenses within its four free zones.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi has issued about 10,500 licenses across five zones, with the Abu Dhabi Global Market taking a substantial share.

Additionally, the northern emirates like Ajman, Fujairah, and Umm Al-Quwain play their roles in broadening the country's investment appeal.

As the UAE continues to diversify its economy, Dubai remains at the forefront, ensuring that its free zones not only meet global standards but also serve as a beacon for international investors.

The progressive policies and strategic initiatives championed by the country's leaders reflect a commitment to sustaining Dubai's position as a leading center for business and trade.
