Dubai Police Distribute Over 119,000 Iftar Meals During Ramadan

The initiative aims to promote road safety and awareness amidst increased traffic during the holy month.
In the first ten days of Ramadan, Dubai Police distributed 119,850 iftar meals to motorists just before the Maghrib call to prayer.

This initiative is part of the 'Ramadan Without Accidents' campaign, which aims to enhance traffic safety and raise awareness among road users while reducing traffic accidents during the holy month.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stated that the traffic education department, in collaboration with multiple agencies, including the Roads and Transport Authority, Civil Defense, the Emirates Red Crescent, Dubai Charity Association, Dubai Digital Authority, a local newspaper, and various pharmacies, successfully distributed these meals across key intersections in the emirate, with the help of 230 volunteers.

Major General Al Mazrouei highlighted that driving just before iftar time is particularly hazardous, as the rate of traffic accidents tends to increase due to rushed behavior and distraction.

He noted that some drivers, eager to reach their destinations quickly, commit serious violations such as exceeding the speed limit, running red lights, and improper overtaking, which can lead to serious accidents resulting in significant injuries or fatalities.

The traffic congestion that often precedes iftar also exacerbates the situation, as some drivers attempt to maneuver illegally between vehicles, such as by using the road shoulder or disregarding mandatory lanes, which contributes to road blockages and chain-reaction accidents.

He emphasized that adherence to traffic laws, careful planning for leaving locations ahead of time, and taking one’s time while driving are essential factors in avoiding accidents and ensuring safety on the roads.

Major General Al Mazrouei expressed gratitude to the volunteers who contributed to the success of the 'Ramadan Without Accidents' initiative, underscoring their embodiment of humanitarian values and community solidarity deeply ingrained in the United Arab Emirates.

He also acknowledged the active role of participating organizations in supporting this campaign aimed at enhancing road safety during the holy month.
