Russian Missile Strike in Odesa Results in Deaths of Syrian Nationals
Four Syrian citizens killed in a Russian missile attack targeting a port in Odesa while loading wheat for export.
A Ukrainian official reported on Thursday that four Syrian nationals were killed in a Russian missile strike on Odesa, a port city in southern Ukraine, the previous night.
The missile attack caused damage to a vessel registered under the Barbadian flag that was loading wheat intended for export to Algeria at the time of the incident.
Oleksii Kulyba, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Reconstruction, shared the details on social media, stating, 'Unfortunately, four citizens of Syria were killed.
The ship was entirely civilian.'
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began over three years ago, continues alongside international efforts to mediate an end to the hostilities.
As part of these developments, Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire contingent on reciprocal agreement from Russia.
Meanwhile, the United States is resuming military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine following discussions that took place in Saudi Arabia.
The attack and the resulting casualties highlight the persistent volatility in the region, which has faced significant humanitarian and geopolitical challenges amid the ongoing war.
