Sheikh Mohamed and El Sisi Advocate for Gaza Ceasefire in Abu Dhabi Talks
Leaders call for intensified global efforts for a permanent resolution while strengthening bilateral relations.
President Sheikh Mohamed of the United Arab Emirates and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi convened for a significant meeting in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, where they reiterated calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The leaders emphasized the necessity for the international community to enhance efforts aimed at achieving what they termed a "just and comprehensive peace" based on a two-state solution.
These discussions occurred at Qasr Al Shati, where both leaders also sought to deepen the historical ties between their nations and exchanged Eid Al Adha greetings.
Following their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon in honor of President El Sisi, who arrived in the UAE for what was described as a “fraternal visit.” This visit builds on earlier discussions in Cairo in March, which centered around opportunities for development, economic collaboration, and investment.
Such high-level meetings are part of an ongoing dialogue reflecting a decades-long friendship between the UAE and Egypt, with Sheikh Mohamed having previously visited Egypt for similar discussions in October.
Attendees at Wednesday’s meeting included several high-ranking officials from both nations.
Among those present were Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, and Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Office of the President for Strategic Affairs.
In related developments, Sheikh Mohamed on Wednesday announced the waiving of approximately Dh140 million in debts for 222 Emiratis in advance of Eid Al Adha.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote social stability and welfare by relieving financial burdens, particularly for retirees and beneficiaries of social support.
The breakdown of debt relief includes Dh86.4 million for 132 retirees and Dh53.4 million for 90 citizens under social support.
In Dubai, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed also waived Dh101 million in mortgage debts for 303 Emiratis, further underscoring ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
Amid ongoing humanitarian crises, the UAE has demonstrated its commitment to supporting those affected by conflict.
One significant case highlighted is that of Oday Jedba, a 12-year-old boy from Gaza who received critical medical treatment in the UAE after a rare disease diagnosis.
His evacuation was facilitated by the UAE as part of Operation Gallant Knight 3, which aims to aid those in need following the escalation of conflict in the enclave.
The UAE, in conjunction with the Emirates Red Crescent and various humanitarian organizations, has been delivering aid to the affected populations in Gaza, showcasing its role in addressing urgent humanitarian needs within the region.
