Strategic Partnership Between Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Partanna to Drive Decarbonization in Concrete Industry

Pioneering Innovation for a Greener Future in Construction
The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has announced a significant partnership agreement with Partanna, a leader in the development of innovative climate technologies and a promising startup from Hub71, the global technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.

This collaboration aims to establish Partanna's regional headquarters and a state-of-the-art cement manufacturing facility in the emirate, positioning Abu Dhabi as a burgeoning regional hub for low-carbon construction materials and enhancing its sustainability efforts.

The agreement bolsters Partanna’s ambitious plans to reduce the carbon footprint of the global cement and concrete industry, valued at approximately $400 billion and contributing nearly 9% of global carbon dioxide emissions.

Traditional manufacturing methods have long exacerbated the challenges of climate change.

Partanna has developed a groundbreaking solution that could revolutionize the concrete sector.

Their innovation involves replacing carbon-intensive 'cement clinker' with magnesium compounds derived from the brine by-product of desalination processes, thus converting these by-products into a cost-competitive essential component for concrete manufacturing.

Under the agreement, Partanna’s Abu Dhabi facility will transform saline waste solutions into cement, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions and enabling concrete to act as a carbon capture material.

Partanna's cement is in compliance with international building standards and can be used in steel-reinforced concrete.

Demonstrating high efficiency and reactivity when mixed with saline water, Partanna’s cement will see its new facility in Abu Dhabi produce up to 3 million tonnes of cement annually, capturing approximately 10% of the UAE’s cement market.

The company plans to scale its production and expand across the nation and beyond.

Badr Salim Sultan Al Olama, Director General of ADIO, stated, "Through strategic partnerships with leading companies like Partanna, we affirm that economic growth aligns seamlessly with the highest standards of environmental responsibility.

This collaboration underscores our unwavering commitment to lead future industries and accelerate industrial innovation."
