Al Ahly Moves Closer to Egyptian Premier League Title with Last-Minute Goal
Al Ahly secures a critical 2-1 victory against Al Ahly Bank, positioning themselves for a 45th league title.
Al Ahly Cairo edged closer to clinching the Egyptian Premier League title after securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Al Ahly Bank on Saturday.
The win, marked by a last-gasp goal from substitute Wissam Abou Ali, propelled Al Ahly to 55 points, placing them two points ahead of Pyramids FC, who defeated Petrojet 2-0 in a concurrent match.
With one match remaining in the season, Al Ahly is set to face Pharco, while Al Ahly Bank remains in fourth place with 37 points.
The match commenced with a powerful shot from Mohamed Ashour in the fifth minute, which soared over the crossbar following a cross from Tahr Mohamed Tahr.
Ashour later found the net in the 21st minute, firing a stunning shot from outside the penalty area into the far top corner, assisted by Moroccan player Ashraf Bencherki.
Ashour, named man of the match, solidified his position as the league's top scorer with 12 goals, one goal ahead of Osama Faisal from Al Ahly Bank and teammates Yaw Anwar and Nasr Mansi from Zamalek.
Just before the end of the first half, Tahr assisted Slovenian Nites Gradishar, who shot high from close range.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Anwar equalized for Al Ahly Bank, scoring from inside the penalty area after receiving a cross from Sid Abdallah.
As the second half progressed, Al Ahly's Mahrwan Attia sent a shot past the right post in the 70th minute.
Substituted player Amr El Soleya unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, which was deflected to a corner by Al Ahly Bank's goalkeeper Abdel Aziz El Balahoti in the 79th minute.
In the 83rd minute, Al Ahly players appealed for a penalty when substitute Mohamed Magdy 'Afsha' fell in the box but the referee allowed play to continue.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time, an assist from Yasser Ibrahim allowed Wissam Abou Ali to score with a close-range header, sealing the victory for Al Ahly.
In a match played simultaneously, Mahrwan Hamdi scored twice to lead Pyramids FC to a 2-0 win over Petrojet, bringing Pyramids to a total of 53 points, two points behind Al Ahly.
Petrojet remains eighth with 26 points.
Hamdi's opening goal came in the 55th minute with a header from a cross by Mohamed Hamdi, followed by a second goal from outside the penalty area in the 62nd minute.
Additionally, Ceramica Cleopatra achieved a commanding 4-0 victory over Misr El-Makasa, lifting their points to 34, placing them sixth, while Misr remains fifth with 36 points.
Islam Essa was a key player for Ceramica, scoring two goals in the first half, and completing the scoring with contributions from Mohamed Reda and Ayman Saad.
