Dubai Resident in Critical Condition After Gas Explosion Fire
Filipina expat Annalyn battles severe burns following a tragic incident at Al Barsha building.
A Filipina expatriate in Dubai is fighting for her life after sustaining serious burn injuries due to a fire caused by a gas explosion in her building in Al Barsha.
The incident occurred on May 13 at the Al Zarooni building, located on Halim Street in Barsha 1, near the Mall of the Emirates.
The fire reportedly originated from the Pearl View restaurant and cafeteria situated on the ground floor of the 13-storey structure.
Annalyn, who resided on the first floor directly above the restaurant, suffered 65 percent burn injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the burn unit of a government hospital.
Her sister, Angely, spoke about the incident, stating that she received alarming news about Annalyn's condition.
Angely, a nurse working in Saudi Arabia, expressed her concerns and stated she plans to travel to the UAE by the end of May.
In a statement from Dubai Civil Defence (DCD), it was confirmed that a gas leak at the Pearl View restaurant was the cause of the fire, which was contained promptly.
Following the incident, numerous residents sought refuge with friends and family.
Angely shared that both Annalyn and her brother-in-law experienced burn injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital, with Annalyn listed in critical condition.
Her husband, meanwhile, is reportedly more stable and recovering in another ward.
Angely described the moment of the explosion, noting that it occurred late at night as they were preparing for bed.
Hospital staff are providing the family with ongoing updates regarding Annalyn's recovery, which they note will be long and arduous.
Photographs from the hospital reveal Annalyn surrounded by medical equipment, and it has been confirmed that she has undergone a tracheostomy, a surgical procedure to create an opening in the neck to facilitate breathing.
Angely has expressed concerns regarding the growing hospital bills and the long-term implications of Annalyn's injuries, emphasizing the extensive care required for burn recovery.
Annalyn and her husband have been residents of the UAE for over a decade.
Initially starting her career as a receptionist, Annalyn had recently switched to a job at a local gym where her husband had been employed for a longer duration.
