Iran Intensifies Crackdown on Alleged Mossad Operatives After Sabotage Claims

Security forces arrest dozens and execute two on charges of espionage amid reported covert Israeli drone and sabotage operations

Iranian authorities have conducted a series of arrests and an execution in connection with alleged Mossad espionage following a reported covert sabotage campaign inside Iran.

Officials announced the detention of several dozen individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel’s intelligence agency. State media reported that security forces dismantled clandestine drone bomb‑making facilities in Rey (south of Tehran) containing approximately 200 kg of explosives, drone wings and munitions, and arrested at least 28 suspects across multiple provinces including Alborz, Lorestan and Hamadan .

Authorities said two suspected Mossad agents were arrested in Alborz province in mid‑June while allegedly assembling explosives and drones. In Lorestan, five others were detained over accusations of conducting online campaigns “tarnishing” Iran’s image .

A man identified as Esmaeil Fekri, arrested in December 2023 and convicted of espionage for Mossad, was executed on June 16 following a reported Supreme Court affirmation of his death sentence. Officials charged him with transmitting locations of strategic sites and personnel data to Israeli intelligence .

State sources described the recent operations as part of a wider Mossad campaign involving sabotage, covert drone deployment and the infiltration, purportedly enabling Israeli air‑force strikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure between June 13–15 .

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard paramilitary Basij units were deployed to conduct night patrols and enforce checkpoints, while citizens were instructed to report individuals wearing masks or goggles, driving pickups, or loitering near sensitive sites .

Legal actions for espionage are proceeding under wartime legislation (Articles 6–10), which carry severe penalties. Iranian courts have escalated prosecutions, describing the measures as necessary to counter infiltration amid heightened tensions with Israel .

The campaign against alleged Mossad networks follows a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s missile batteries, command installations and nuclear facilities. Iranian officials attribute these attacks in part to sabotage by domestic agents linked to Mossad .

Security and judicial authorities have indicated that further arrests are expected as investigations continue. Tehran has emphasised that these actions are part of a broader counter‑intelligence operation to safeguard critical national infrastructure.
