Eid Al Adha 2025 Dates Announced Following Crescent Moon Sighting in UAE
First day of Dhul Hijjah confirmed as authorities announce Eid Al Adha start date.
The United Arab Emirates will celebrate Eid Al Adha on Friday, June 6, 2025, following the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon on Tuesday evening, as confirmed by local authorities.
This crescent moon sighting marks the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, with the first day commencing on Wednesday, May 28. The Day of Arafah, occurring on June 5, will precede Eid Al Adha, which is observed on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah.
In line with a resolution issued by the UAE Cabinet in 2024, residents will enjoy four days off for Eid Al Adha, with public holidays starting from the Day of Arafah through to the following three days of Eid celebrations.
This schedule provides residents with an extended weekend from Thursday through Sunday.
The Islamic calendar relies on lunar cycles, which necessitates moon sightings to determine the exact dates of Islamic holidays.
Local authorities had previously urged residents to observe the crescent moon on the evening of May 27 and report any sightings to the Crescent Sighting Committee.
The Dhul Hijjah crescent was observed by astronomers at multiple times throughout Tuesday.
The Al Khatim Observatory in Abu Dhabi captured images of the crescent moon at various intervals, with the moon's angular distance from the sun recorded at 5.5 degrees at 11 AM, 6.5 degrees at 3:15 PM, and 7.6 degrees after sunset at 7:05 PM.
In a separate announcement, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has issued guidance for UAE residents planning to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage this year.
The ministry highlighted the risks associated with extreme summer heat, cautioning pilgrims about potential heatstroke and exhaustion.
MoHAP's advisory includes recommendations to limit sun exposure, use light-coloured umbrellas, apply sunscreen regularly, and stay hydrated with water and natural juices.
Additional advice emphasizes the importance of rest, finding shade, and pacing oneself during the pilgrimage rituals.
Common symptoms of heat-related health issues include dryness and redness of the skin, difficulty swallowing and breathing, and overall fatigue.
Pilgrims are urged to carry well-stocked medical kits, which should include hand sanitizers, disinfectants, and hydration supplies to mitigate health risks during Hajj.
Furthermore, Dubai Airports is set to facilitate the travel of approximately 3,100 Hajj pilgrims through five key measures aimed at ensuring a smooth departure and return process.
These measures include designated counters for check-in and prayer facilities in the terminals, as well as communication support from guest experience ambassadors.
Pilgrims are advised to arrive at Dubai International Airport at least four hours prior to their flight, ensuring they have all necessary travel documents, including passports, UAE identity cards, Hajj permits, and vaccination certificates.
The expected return period for Hajj pilgrims spans from June 9 to June 12, coinciding with the beginning of the summer travel peak, which may lead to increased passenger traffic at the airport.
The health ministry has reaffirmed the importance of healthy eating practices during Hajj, advising against the purchase of exposed food items and stressing the necessity of consuming clean and properly stored foods.
Regular meal intake and hydration are recommended to maintain energy levels during the physically demanding pilgrimage.
