Demonstrations highlight growing discontent over Musk's government cost-cutting measures and political influence.
On Saturday, demonstrators gathered outside
Tesla showrooms across the United States to protest against the actions of the electric vehicle company's CEO,
Elon Musk.
The protests are a response to Musk's efforts to reduce government spending, which critics allege have been influenced by former President
Donald Trump.
These demonstrations come amid increasing backlash in North America and Europe concerning Musk's controversial role in Washington.
Opponents of both Trump and Musk aim to deter and stigmatize purchases of
Tesla vehicles, with the company being recognized as the world's most valuable car manufacturer by market capitalization.
Musk has been leading an unprecedented campaign to scale back federal government operations, a move that has resulted in thousands of job losses and the termination of numerous federal assistance and rental contracts.
For weeks, protests against
Tesla have been organized to galvanize opposition against Musk and the government efficiency ministry he established, while also encouraging Democrats, who remain disillusioned from Trump's victory last November.
Musk has reportedly received direction from Trump to significantly cut federal expenditure and sharply reduce the workforce, asserting that Trump’s victory has provided them both with a mandate to restructure the U.S. government.
During a particularly vocal protest outside a
Tesla headquarters in New York City, nine individuals were arrested.
Police reported that hundreds participated in what has now become a series of nationwide protests branded 'Drop
Tesla,' aimed at challenging Musk’s leadership.
Crowds of protesters also assembled outside
Tesla showrooms in Jacksonville, Florida, Tucson, Arizona, and several other cities, blocking traffic and chanting slogans.
Some carried signs emblazoned with messages such as 'Burn
Tesla: Save Democracy' and 'No to Tyrants in the United States.'
