Russian Court Reduces Sentence for US Soldier Involved in Theft Case
Gordon Black's prison term is shortened after being convicted of threats and theft against a Russian national.
A Russian court has reduced the prison sentence of an American soldier, Gordon Black, by seven months.
Initially sentenced for threatening to kill his girlfriend and stealing from her, Black has been involved in legal proceedings in Vladivostok since June 6 of the previous year.
Black was arrested while visiting Alexandra Vashchuk, a Russian woman he had met during his service in South Korea.
Vashchuk accused him of stealing approximately $118 and physically assaulting her following a dispute.
The case has drawn attention due to the international implications surrounding the involvement of a US serviceman in a criminal matter within Russia.
