Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Engages with Global Leaders at WGS 2025 to Strengthen International Relations
Bilateral discussions with leaders from Georgia, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Iraq at the World Governments Summit focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), conducted a series of meetings with multiple heads of state during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025, held in Dubai from February 11 to 13, 2025. The summit, themed ‘Shaping Future Governments’, aims to promote international collaboration to address shared challenges.
In a significant meeting on the sidelines, Sheikh Mohammed welcomed Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, along with a delegation that included prominent UAE officials.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors.
Sheikh Mohammed acknowledged Georgia's active participation in the summit, which serves as a platform for exchanging expertise and developing strategic solutions to enhance quality of life.
During this meeting, Kobakhidze expressed his intent to deepen the cooperation between Georgia and the UAE, commending the UAE’s advancements in various fields and its leadership role in regional and global matters.
Similarly, Sheikh Mohammed met with Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of Laos, highlighting the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.
The focus was on exploring enhanced cooperation in economic and technological domains.
Siphandone praised the UAE's progressive policies and expressed interest in expanding partnerships, particularly through the frameworks offered by the WGS.
Another notable meeting featured Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka, wherein the leaders discussed the importance of governmental coordination and innovation in addressing economic challenges.
Dissanayake expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support in the development of key sectors within Sri Lanka, noting significant progress achieved in investment, trade, and tourism through their bilateral partnerships.
On the same day, Sheikh Mohammed met with Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, President of Iraq, during an official visit to the UAE.
The leaders explored opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as renewable energy and furthering economic partnerships.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to stability in the region and emphasized a diplomatic approach towards achieving peace, particularly regarding the Middle East's ongoing complexities.
The WGS 2025, attended by over 30 heads of state and government, features more than 80 international and regional organizations and 140 government delegations.
This year's agenda comprises 21 global forums addressing future trends and over 200 interactive sessions with key speakers from various sectors.
The summit also plans to publish 30 strategic reports in collaboration with international knowledge partners.
