The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reaffirmed its dedication to dialogue and diplomacy as pivotal means for resolving conflicts and fostering cooperation during the 34th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Summit held in Baghdad on May 17, 2025. The UAE government articulated a foreign policy aimed at promoting regional stability and prosperity, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian efforts amidst ongoing tensions in the region.
Central to the UAE's agenda is the pursuit of a peaceful resolution regarding the three disputed islands—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—occupied by Iran.
The UAE advocates for bilateral negotiations or referring the matter to the International Court of Justice, adhering to international law.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the UAE firmly rejects any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their lands.
This stance aligns with its commitment to uphold international law and address threats to the stability of neighboring countries, including Egypt and Jordan.
In response to the Sudanese crisis, the UAE criticized the legitimacy of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, asserting that the body does not represent the Sudanese people and expressing that it will not recognize its decisions.
This criticism follows the council's statement severing relations with the UAE and designating it as an adversary.
The UAE highlighted its support for political solutions to ongoing conflicts in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, and Somalia.
Reinforcing its partnership with Saudi Arabia, the UAE acknowledged its role in pushing towards a political resolution for the Yemeni crisis and emphasized the responsibility of the international community in ensuring maritime security in vital straits and international waters.
In Syria, the UAE welcomed the presidency of Ahmad al-Shara and expressed hope for the government's success in addressing the needs and aspirations of the Syrian people for peace and stability.
Similarly, the election of Joseph Aoun as President of Lebanon and the formation of a government under Prime Minister Nawaf Salam were recognized as key steps towards reinforcing national institutions and addressing Lebanese aspirations for progress.
The UAE asserted that a peaceful resolution to the Libyan crisis is crucial for the security, stability, and unity of the country, while also committing to support the Federal Government of Somalia in its fight against terrorism and in fostering national sovereignty.
The UAE continues to stress the importance of Arab solidarity in tackling challenges faced by the region, advocating for an end to extremism and violence through diplomatic dialogue.
In light of ongoing violence in Gaza and the Israeli-occupied territories, the UAE condemned acts that threaten Palestinian civilians and called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities to prevent continued violations of international law.
Within the context of Sudan, the UAE urged prompt humanitarian action to alleviate the critical humanitarian crisis exacerbated by civil conflict since April 2023. It called for the removal of obstacles to humanitarian assistance and expressed concern over the conflict's implications for regional stability.
The UAE's commitment to humanitarian assistance is underscored by its historical contributions to Sudan, with over $3.5 billion provided in aid over the past decade, and more than $600 million allocated since the outbreak of the current civil conflict.
Finally, the UAE reiterated its full support for Iraq, commending its efforts to restore its positive role in the Arab and regional context while reinforcing bilateral relationships based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
