UAE Communities Prepare for Cancer Awareness Runs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Annual runs organized by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi set to support cancer awareness and research
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a part of the M42 group, is preparing to host its second annual cancer awareness run in February 2025. Following the success of last year's inaugural event in Abu Dhabi, this year's initiative will include the first cancer run in Dubai, reflecting an expanded commitment to cancer prevention, early detection, and research.
Scheduled to align with World Cancer Day on February 4, the runs will be held on February 1, 2025, at Hudayriyat Island in Abu Dhabi and on February 8, 2025, at Dubai Design District.
The events are expected to attract over 4,000 runners across various age groups and draw nearly 6,000 supporters to participate in the initiative aimed at addressing a global health concern.
Participants can choose from four different race distances: 1km, 3km, 5km, and 10km.
These options cater to both beginners and seasoned runners while featuring scenic routes designed to provide a satisfying challenge.
The 1km and 3km distances are aimed at families and those new to running, while the 5km and 10km categories are suited to competitive athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
Dr. Stephen Grobmyer, Chair of Medical Oncology & Hematology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, emphasized the significance of the event, noting its role in promoting early detection and prevention strategies in combatting cancer.
Medical support and hydration stations will be situated along the race courses to ensure participant safety and comfort.
Registration for the runs is open until four days before each event, with entry fees priced at Dh50 for children and Dh75 for adults.
Competitive participants in the main races have the opportunity to win cash prizes.
In the 10km category, the first-place winners will receive Dh3,000, second-place Dh2,000, and third-place Dh1,000.
In the 5km race, the prize structure includes Dh2,000 for first place, Dh1,500 for second, and Dh1,000 for third.
Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to funding cancer research and improving access to preventive healthcare.
Additionally, the event will host health awareness booths and community activities, offering participants opportunities to engage with healthcare professionals and further support cancer-related initiatives.
