UAE Weather Update: High Temperatures and Humidity Recorded
Temperatures rise to 46.7°C across the UAE, with beach swimming suspended due to oil spill in Khor Fakkan.
Dubai: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather forecast indicating that temperatures across the UAE are expected to rise significantly.
This evening, the weather is forecasted to be slightly warm and humid, a condition that is becoming increasingly common during this season.
Coastal areas are predicted to experience maximum temperatures around 45°C, accompanied by elevated humidity levels that may create challenging conditions for outdoor activities.
In the internal regions, temperatures are estimated to reach between 37°C and 43°C. The highest recorded temperature today was a notable 46.7°C, observed in Khatam Al Shaklah (Al Ain) at 12:45 PM, with Sweihan (Al Ain) reporting the same temperature at 2:45 PM. Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa also reached 46.7°C at 3:00 PM, marking one of the hottest days recorded this season.
The heightened humidity is expected to lead to a pronounced stickiness in the air, particularly in coastal regions during the afternoon hours.
This increase in humidity raises concerns about potential heat-related health issues among the public.
Despite these challenging conditions, sea conditions are reported to be slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea, offering a temporary relief for those seeking cooler environments at the beach.
Looking ahead to May 20, 2025, forecasters predict generally fair weather with periods of partial cloud cover, especially moving toward the east.
Light to moderate southeasterly to north-easterly winds are anticipated, ranging from 10 to 25 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching up to 30 km/h, maintaining similar sea conditions.
In a separate development, Khor Fakkan Municipality in Sharjah has announced the temporary suspension of swimming at Al Zubarah Beach following the detection of oil traces in the seawater.
This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of beachgoers at this popular location.
Authorities have reiterated that the closure is temporary and underscores their commitment to maintaining public safety and a clean environment.
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, confirmed that swimming has been prohibited due to the small amount of oil observed in the sea.
Ongoing investigations are in progress to ascertain the source of the spill, with the municipality cooperating closely to address the situation swiftly.
Public cooperation and understanding have been solicited during this period of heightened safety measures.
