Significant multi-year agreement aims to enhance government services through advanced cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The Abu Dhabi Government has officially signed a multi-year partnership with Microsoft and G42, a subsidiary of the technology group G42, to establish a sovereign cloud system designed to support the emirate’s digital transformation and bolster AI integration.
The agreement was signed in a ceremony attended by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority.
The partnership will create a high-performance cloud computing environment capable of managing over 11 million daily digital interactions, enhancing governmental operational efficiencies.
Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Enablement in Abu Dhabi, represented the government in signing the agreement with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and G42 Group CEO Peng Xiao.
Abu Dhabi has set a strategic objective to become the world’s first fully AI-native government by 2027, which is part of its broader Government Digital Strategy for the years 2025-2027. This ambitious initiative is backed by a significant investment of Dh13 billion, equivalent to approximately $3.54 billion, aimed at advancing digital infrastructure.
The strategy includes the implementation of over 200 AI-powered solutions intended to optimize public services and improve overall operational efficiency.
Ahmed Al Kuttab articulated the significance of this partnership, noting that it represents a pivotal step in Abu Dhabi’s ongoing digital transformation.
He indicated that the integration of Microsoft’s cloud technologies with G42’s AI capabilities is set to reshape government services.
Satya Nadella remarked on the global implications of this initiative, pointing out that AI is poised to revolutionize governmental operations, with Abu Dhabi at the forefront of this movement.
He indicated that this collaboration could serve as a benchmark for AI adoption within the public sector.
A notable development within this agreement is the evolution of TAMM 3.0, an application facilitating access to Abu Dhabi’s government services.
This app reportedly reduced the need for offline customer interactions by 90% and has made more than 73% of transactions instantaneous.
Peng Xiao emphasized the significance of data sovereignty in this partnership, asserting that Core42’s Sovereign Public Cloud, powered by Azure, will ensure that government entities can secure their data while effectively harnessing the advantages of advanced AI innovations.
This agreement underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to digital evolution and its aspiration to cultivate a government that is not only technologically advanced but also adept in utilizing AI and cloud technologies for enhanced service delivery.
