Advanced Radar Systems Enforce Traffic Regulations in Dubai
Dubai Police Utilize Multi-Camera Towers to Record Traffic Violations Beyond Speeding
Dubai Police have implemented advanced radar systems equipped with multiple cameras to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations beyond speeding violations.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, disclosed that the use of the latest radar technology has resulted in the recording of 51,891 traffic violations over an 11-month period, excluding theft-related incidents.
The 'Al Burj' radar, known technically as the Vitronic, has enabled authorities to capture a variety of infractions such as failure to wear seatbelts and using a handheld phone while driving.
Specifically, 109 seatbelt violations and 86 mobile phone usage violations were recorded, along with other offenses including 19 cases of improperly mounted license plates and two instances of vehicles without license plates.
Contrary to some drivers' beliefs that radars only detect speeding, these devices now have the capacity to monitor multiple types of violations concurrently.
The implementation aims to address public concerns regarding disputes over non-immediate tickets for issues like not wearing seat belts and mobile phone use.
Dubai Police are the first in the region to deploy the Vitronic radar, which boasts features such as bi-directional imaging and intelligent vehicle differentiation.
This capability extends to detecting incorrect use of road shoulders, with 21,374 such violations recorded since the beginning of the year.
Moreover, the radars have been strategically utilized at intersections, capturing violations such as speeding through green lights and unauthorized passing on red signals.
A total of 20,780 incidents involving red light violations have been documented.
Heavy vehicles are also closely monitored, with 6,512 infractions recorded for not adhering to mandatory lanes, and 3,009 for ignoring traffic signs and restrictions.
This technology distinguishes between the speed of heavy vehicles and other traffic, ensuring tailored enforcement.
To date, 52 multi-camera Al Burj radars have been installed on Sheikh Zayed Road, alongside 31 units focused on red light violations, addressing the road's high traffic volume and frequent infractions including improper lane changes and failure to maintain safe distances.
These measures contribute to the reduction of accidents and road fatalities, as reflected in an 8% decrease in traffic-related deaths in the first nine months of the current year, totaling 122 fatalities compared to 131 during the same period the previous year.
