AI as a Critical Element in Energy Efficiency and Digitization, Says UAE Minister

Suhail Al Mazrouei emphasizes the transformative role of AI in the energy sector during the Global Government Summit 2025.
During the second day of the Global Government Summit 2025, Suhail Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, articulated the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing energy efficiency and digital transformation.

He stated that technological advancements are expected to significantly reduce operational costs and bolster the strategies of governments and corporations towards a more sustainable future.

Al Mazrouei shared these insights during a session titled 'Will Big Tech Companies Lead the Future of Energy?' which also featured Olivier Blum, CEO of Schneider Electric.

Al Mazrouei noted that the energy sector is undergoing fundamental changes, necessitating enhanced cooperation between nations and corporations to adapt to these shifts while ensuring a balance between the rising demand for energy and environmental sustainability.

He indicated that electricity demand is projected to increase substantially with urban growth and digital transformation, which necessitates significant investments in renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy.

Al Mazrouei emphasized that international collaboration between governments and major corporations presents a tremendous opportunity for new investments in clean energy.

He pointed out that current changes in the energy market require strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors to meet the increasing demand for electricity while maintaining ecological balance and sustainability.

Olivier Blum supported Al Mazrouei's statements by highlighting the pivotal role of major technology companies in enhancing energy utilization efficiency.

He noted that smart chips and AI technologies could significantly reduce energy consumption in data centers, thereby contributing to sustainability goals.

Blum further stated that investments in advanced technology would enable companies to improve energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

He underscored the importance of fostering collaboration between governments, the private sector, and international institutions to drive sustainable investments, calling for innovative strategies to integrate sustainability, with a focus on adopting technological solutions that aid in achieving sustainability objectives, such as smart cities and renewable energy.
