Al Ahly Confirms Signing of Zizo from Rivals Zamalek
Ahmed Mostafa, known as Zizo, joins Al Ahly amid ongoing rivalry with Zamalek, raising tensions in Egyptian football.
Egyptian football club Al Ahly has officially announced the signing of international player Ahmed Mostafa, commonly known as Zizo, from their arch-rivals Zamalek in a free transfer.
The announcement has sparked considerable controversy and deepened the longstanding rivalry between the two leading clubs in Egyptian football.
Al Ahly shared a video on its social media platforms featuring the 29-year-old player in the club's colors while holding an eagle, and captioned the post with the phrase "All roads lead to the island.
#Zizo_Ahlawy."
Prior to his transfer, Zamalek had conducted investigations regarding Zizo's absence from training sessions, which led to him facing disciplinary actions.
Reports indicated that Zizo had reached an agreement to join Al Ahly, further complicating the situation.
To prevent his participation in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in mid-June, local media outlets reported that Zamalek informed the Egyptian Football Association of the end of Zizo's contract with the club effective June 12. This date coincided with the scheduling of the final match of the Egyptian League Cup.
