Al Wahda Claims Last-Minute Victory Over Al Ain in Clasico Clash
Al Wahda edges Al Ain 2-1 in a thrilling match, moving into third place in the ADNOC Professional League.
Al Wahda secured a dramatic 2-1 victory against Al Ain in the latest edition of their fierce rivalry, known as the ‘Clasico’, at Al Nahyan Stadium on Thursday.
The match was part of the 18th round of the ADNOC Professional League.
This victory propelled Al Wahda to third place in the league standings with a total of 31 points, while Al Ain slipped to fourth temporarily, holding 29 points.
Al Ain opened the scoring through Abdelkarim Traore in the 28th minute.
However, Al Wahda equalized in the second half, with Facundo scoring in the 68th minute.
The match saw Al Ain reduced to ten men after Fabio Cardoso received a red card for a foul on an opponent in the 30th minute.
In a dramatic finale, Ibrahim Diara netted the winning goal for Al Wahda in the fifth minute of added time.
The encounter was live with action from the outset, with both teams creating multiple scoring opportunities.
The first significant chance came early for Al Wahda; Facundo's header struck the crossbar in the 3rd minute, followed by a solid save from Al Ain’s goalkeeper Mohammed Al Shamsi against Eric’s shot in the 7th minute.
Al Wahda continued to apply pressure, with Kevin Agudelo missing a chance by shooting narrowly past the post in the 8th minute.
A notable opportunity arose in the 21st minute when the ball fell to Ahmad Noorullah, who unfortunately missed the target.
Al Ain focused its attack down the left wing through Eric, whose cross found Traore, who scored with a powerful header in the 28th minute, giving Al Ain the lead.
However, the match took a turn in favor of Al Wahda just after Traore's goal when Cardoso was sent off for a last-man foul in the 30th minute.
Al Wahda seized the moment to increase their offensive efforts, but they missed a chance to equalize just before halftime when Facundo’s header was saved by Khalid Eisa, hitting the post soon after.
In the second half, Al Wahda intensified their attacks, with Facundo hitting the crossbar again during a shot in the 48th minute.
Taking advantage of Al Ain's numerical disadvantage, Al Wahda equalized when Facundo struck a left-footed shot into the net in the 68th minute.
As the match neared its conclusion, Diara's late goal secured the pivotal three points for Al Wahda, concluding a highly competitive matchup.
