Bahlol Gang Members Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in UAE
Eighteen members of the criminal organization face life terms for extortion and other crimes.
On March 14, 2025, the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals - State Security Chamber delivered a substantial ruling against members of the organized criminal group known as the 'Bahloul Gang.' The court sentenced 18 defendants to life imprisonment, while 46 others received prison terms of 15 years.
Additionally, 16 defendants were sentenced to five years in prison and fined Dh1 million each.
The court also mandated the confiscation of assets linked to the gang’s activities, including funds, properties, vehicles, and weapons.
Some defendants were acquitted during the proceedings.
The UAE Attorney-General, Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, had previously ordered the trial of the gang members for crimes that threatened state security, public order, and societal safety.
The Bahloul Gang was reported to have been formed with the intent to engage in unlawful activities and to amass illicit wealth, distributing the proceeds among its members.
The gang reportedly established a significant presence in certain areas, utilizing social media platforms to promote its criminal undertakings.
They employed prohibited weapons and intimidation tactics to coerce victims into extorting money.
In addition to extortion, the gang was involved in money laundering to obscure the origins of their illicit proceeds.
The comprehensive ruling marks a notable action against organized crime in the UAE.
