Cardiac Center at Al Qasimi Hospital Surpasses 2500 Catheterization Procedures in 2024

Major achievements in cardiac care reflect advancements in medical technology and services.
The Cardiac Center at Al Qasimi Hospital, part of the Emirates Health Services, achieved significant milestones in 2024, performing over 2500 cardiac catheterization procedures, which included both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Additionally, the center conducted 160 open-heart surgeries, with Emiratis constituting 25% of the total cases.

The Emirates Health Services reported that the center successfully inserted 112 pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) in advanced cardiac interventions.

Furthermore, 50 wireless pacemaker implantations were performed this year, bringing the cumulative total to 250 cases, solidifying Al Qasimi Hospital's leadership in this domain.

In terms of technological updates, innovative techniques have been introduced, such as ultrasound therapy for hypertension and the recent adoption of biodegradable stents for femoral artery stenosis, as well as dual chamber pacemaker implants for the first time in the region, demonstrating the center's commitment to offering the latest medical treatments.

In 2023, the center witnessed 21 aortic valve replacements and conducted 78 ablation procedures to treat arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation.

The medical team played a pivotal role in saving numerous lives by performing 605 catheterizations for acute myocardial infarctions, underscoring the center's vital role in advanced cardiac care.

The center has employed advanced surgical techniques, including minimal-access cardiac surgery, which reduces risks and accelerates patient recovery.

More than 20 procedures for valve replacement and repair, as well as congenital heart defect treatments, were successfully executed.

Additionally, 69 cerebral catheterizations were performed to address acute strokes and intracranial hemorrhage, a service that has only recently been implemented at the center.

During 2023, the center received 17,000 outpatient visits and engaged in 21 training workshops while hosting global experts as part of a visiting physician program aimed at enhancing medical expertise and local competencies.

The center also broadcast several surgical operations live during local, regional, and international medical conferences, further elevating its profile in the field.

Various conferences were organized, training doctors from around the world in modern techniques, and several critical research papers were published in renowned international journals, reinforcing its status as one of the leading specialized cardiac centers in the region.

Dr. Aref Al Nouri, Director of Al Qasimi Hospital, highlighted that these accomplishments reflect the institution's commitment to advancing the healthcare sector and positioning the country as a regional hub for medical excellence, as well as affirming the competencies of its staff and dedication to providing advanced healthcare.
