Cooling Operations Underway After Major Fire at Al Hamriyah Port, Sharjah
A large industrial blaze prompted a coordinated emergency response from local and federal agencies.
Cooling operations are currently underway at Al Hamriyah Port in Sharjah following a massive fire that took approximately 24 hours to bring under control.
The fire ignited at 6:10 AM on Saturday and was fully contained by 6:25 AM on Sunday, according to official reports.
The ongoing cooling process aims to prevent any potential flare-ups in the affected area.
Once authorities declare the site safe, forensic and technical teams will be allowed to enter and begin investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
The results of these investigations will be released following the completion of all technical assessments.
This incident is regarded as one of the largest industrial blazes to occur in the emirate in recent years, attributed to the ignition of highly flammable petrochemical materials.
The flames and smoke generated were so intense that they were visible from neighboring emirates.
In response to the incident, local and federal authorities activated a coordinated emergency response plan.
The Sharjah Civil Defence deployed advanced firefighting equipment, which included foam tankers and high-capacity water pumps.
Additionally, the Sharjah Civil Aviation Authority and Sharjah International Airport Authority contributed aerial surveillance through helicopters and air jets to monitor the spread and intensity of the fire.
Municipal teams from Sharjah and Al Hamriyah also collaborated in the effort, providing water tankers and logistical support to the firefighting operations.
In an effort to ensure public safety, Sharjah Police cordoned off surrounding areas, evacuated nearby buildings, and managed traffic in the vicinity.
Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police and Chairman of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team, commended the teams involved for their professionalism in handling the situation.
He noted the significance of rapid response, high-level coordination, and the utilization of specialized equipment in bringing the situation under control without any reported casualties.
Support for the operation was bolstered by contributions from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, National Guard, National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), all of whom provided essential equipment, personnel, and technical expertise.
