Crescent Moon Signals End of Ramadan Observed in Abu Dhabi
The Al Khatim Astronomical Observatory captures the crescent moon as Ramadan approaches its conclusion.
ABU DHABI: On Friday, the crescent moon that indicates the final days of Ramadan was photographed from Abu Dhabi, as confirmed by the International Astronomical Center.
This image, taken at noon local time by the Al Khatim Astronomical Observatory, reveals the hilal (crescent) of Ramadan 1446 AH at a solar elongation of 16 degrees, indicating that the moon was positioned 16 degrees away from the sun during the observation.
The sighting occurred in daylight conditions and forms part of the center's routine astronomical monitoring.
It is important to note, however, that the appearance of the crescent moon in this photograph does not guarantee its visibility to the naked eye on Saturday or influence the official announcement regarding Eid Al Fitr.
Moon sighting committees across the region are scheduled to convene on Saturday evening to assess local visibility conditions, which will determine the official start of Eid.
The conclusion of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid Al Fitr are traditionally established through direct lunar sightings.
