Dubai's RTA Introduces 893 Air-Conditioned Bus Shelters Ahead of Summer
The Roads and Transport Authority enhances public transport experience with operational air-conditioned shelters across the emirate.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the operational readiness of 893 air-conditioned bus shelters, strategically located at 622 sites throughout Dubai, in preparation for the upcoming summer season.
This initiative aims to enhance the comfort of public transport users amidst rising temperatures.
The announcement follows an inspection and maintenance campaign that began in March 2023, focusing on the operational efficiency of these shelters.
The maintenance efforts will continue through the second quarter of 2025 to ensure that the air-conditioned facilities are fully functional and meet the highest service standards.
Shaikha Ahmad AlShaikh, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA's Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, stated that the proactive inspection campaigns are crucial in preventing equipment malfunctions and providing superior service to the community.
AlShaikh emphasized that RTA conducted extensive site visits during various times of the day to monitor the efficiency of these shelters and to address any technical issues promptly.
The RTA has also verified the functionality of digital display screens at the shelters, which provide real-time updates on bus arrivals and departures.
To maintain cleanliness and hygiene, continuous cleaning and sanitization patrols have been deployed, adhering to public health and safety standards.
In addition to ensuring operational excellence, the RTA encourages public engagement by providing communication channels for users to share comments or suggestions regarding the air-conditioned shelters.
Feedback can be submitted through the 'Madinati' service available on the RTA Dubai app, with dedicated teams managing responses to enhance customer satisfaction.
The newly installed air-conditioned bus shelters comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, accommodating people of determination with designated spaces for wheelchair users and clear directional signage outlining the bus mobility network.
Environmentally, these shelters have been designed with streamlined structures that improve their resistance to heat and wind.
They also incorporate advertising spaces and aim to exemplify urban infrastructure that supports environmental sustainability.
