Dubai to Enhance Road Infrastructure with Dh6 Billion Initiative
Roads and Transport Authority and Dubai Holding partner for extensive traffic solutions.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has signed a Dh6 billion agreement with Dubai Holding, aiming to enhance the road infrastructure across key development areas in the emirate.
The project is part of a strategic initiative to improve connectivity, reduce travel times, and increase the capacity of entry and exit points for various localities.
The enhancements will benefit several major communities, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.
Notably, the agreement will facilitate infrastructural improvements for five essential Dubai Holding developments: Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, and International City (Phase 3).
Key components of the initiative include the development of four additional access points for Jumeirah Village Circle.
These will feature grade-separated interchanges designed to double the capacity of the area’s entry and exit points, with the projected result being a 70 per cent reduction in travel time on internal roads and access points.
The improvements are also expected to enhance traffic safety and ensure smoother traffic flow at intersections.
Moreover, additional bridges will be constructed to improve access to Dubai Production City from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which is anticipated to decrease travel times by 50 per cent for the area’s internal road network.
The agreement also encompasses surface enhancements at intersections leading to Business Bay from Sheikh Zayed Road, and includes the construction of a pedestrian bridge at the Business Bay intersection with First Al Khail Road to bolster pedestrian safety and optimize traffic flow.
Upgrades to the internal roads in the Towers Area are set to reduce travel time by 30 per cent across various routes.
In Palm Jumeirah, the expansion plan includes constructing additional acceleration and deceleration lanes at six locations to optimize traffic flow, alongside the building of two pedestrian bridges to replace at-grade crossings.
This is expected to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce travel time within the area by 40 per cent.
The agreement extends to expanding the road marking the entrance to International City (Phase 3) from Manama Street.
This will involve adding a new lane, widening internal roads, and upgrading surface intersections with traffic signals, which is predicted to streamline traffic flow and bolster road safety.
Consequently, travel time for this route is expected to decrease from 15 minutes to five minutes.
Officials from both RTA and Dubai Holding highlight the importance of this partnership in enhancing the emirate's infrastructure and accommodating the growing demand for efficient connectivity.
The initiatives outlined in this agreement are designed to substantially improve travel efficiency, connectivity, and safety for all users of the roads in Dubai.
