Fire Contained at Sharjah Industrial Facility; Rapid Response Prevents Casualties
Swift action by Sharjah Civil Defence teams suppresses fire in Al Saja’a area, crucially averting potential hazards.
Firefighters in Sharjah successfully contained a blaze at an industrial facility in the Al Saja’a area early today.
The facility, which stores flammable petrochemical and fiberglass materials, required immediate action due to the hazardous nature of the substances involved.
The alarm was raised at 3:40 PM, prompting a quick response from civil defense teams, who arrived on site by 3:48 PM. Coordinated firefighting efforts enabled personnel to manage the situation efficiently, bringing the flames under control by 4:42 PM—within one hour of the initial emergency call.
The fire impacted two separate warehouses, one associated with fiberglass products and the other with chemical storage.
The materials involved included diesel and various chemicals, raising concerns over potential threats to both personnel and surrounding structures.
Fortunately, firefighting operations prevented the fire from spreading, and no casualties were reported.
To underscore the importance of public safety, authorities encouraged citizens to report emergencies immediately, with a reminder to contact emergency services at 997 for any incidents.
In a separate incident, Sharjah police arrested a driver connected to a three-vehicle collision on Airport Road under six hours following the event.
The incident transpired when a vehicle made a sudden lane change at high speed, resulting in a chain-reaction crash.
Thankfully, there were no injuries.
Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Allay, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, noted the reckless behavior of the driver as particularly dangerous on high-speed roads, which can allow speeds up to 120 km/h. He indicated that quick identification and apprehension were possible due to advanced monitoring technology and smart systems integrated within the city’s camera surveillance infrastructure.
The driver faces legal repercussions for fleeing the scene, which is categorized as a criminal offense under UAE law, signifying a serious disregard for public safety.
Under current federal traffic regulations, penalties for such actions could include imprisonment for up to one year or fines between Dh50,000 and Dh100,000, or both.
