Jordan Makes History by Qualifying for FIFA World Cup for the First Time
Jordan secures its first-ever World Cup berth following a decisive victory, confirmed by South Korea's win over Iraq.
Jordan has achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for their first-ever FIFA World Cup, following a 3-0 victory over Oman in the AFC second round qualifying match on Thursday.
The match saw Jordan's Ali Olwan delivering a stellar performance by scoring a hat trick, contributing significantly to Jordan's qualification.
The team's success was solidified later in the day when South Korea secured a 2-0 victory against Iraq, confirming Jordan's position in the World Cup after finishing with a total of 16 points in their qualifying group.
Under the current qualification structure, the top two teams from each of the three Asian groups automatically qualify for the World Cup.
Teams finishing in third and fourth place enter a subsequent round of qualifying matches, with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar currently occupying those positions in Group A.
During the match, both teams exchanged early attacks, with Oman captain Faiyz Al Rusheidi reacting quickly to an offside goal attempt by Mousa Al Ta'mari in the 11th minute.
As the match progressed, Oman struggled with finishing, with players Abdul Al Mushaifri and Harib Al Saadi missing key opportunities in the 15th and 19th minutes, respectively.
Jordan’s goalkeeper, Yazeed Abulaila, made a crucial save against Issam Al Sabhi of Oman when he blocked a close-range shot in the 24th minute.
Despite Oman's pressure, Jordan capitalized on their chance when a VAR review led to a penalty.
Mohannad Taha was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area, allowing Olwan to convert the penalty five minutes before halftime, taking the lead for Jordan.
In the second half, Jordan extended their advantage six minutes in.
Olwan scored his second goal, positioning himself well to finish off a well-placed pass from Yazan Al Naimat.
He completed his hat trick in the 64th minute, tapping the ball into an empty net after Al Rusheidi was caught out of position.
Oman, facing the challenge of pressing for a response, made five substitutions late in the match; however, their efforts proved insufficient.
The team now faces a critical match against Palestine on Tuesday, where they must secure a win to maintain hopes of advancing to the playoff round.
