Liverpool and Real Madrid Finalize Agreement for Trent Alexander-Arnold Transfer
The English right-back is set to join the Spanish giants on June 1, 2024, ahead of the Club World Cup.
Liverpool Football Club has reached an agreement with Spanish club Real Madrid for the transfer of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The transfer is scheduled to take place on June 1, 2024, just prior to the expiration of his contract with Liverpool on June 30.
Real Madrid has announced that this arrangement ensures the club can secure the services of Alexander-Arnold for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
Liverpool has confirmed that it has decided to part ways with the 26-year-old international player in exchange for a mutually agreed transfer fee.
Official statements from both clubs indicate that Alexander-Arnold has agreed to a six-year contract with Real Madrid.
Liverpool highlighted Alexander-Arnold's long association with the club, stating he joined their academy at the age of six and progressed through various age groups before making his first-team debut in October 2016.
During his tenure at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold has played 354 matches, scoring 23 goals and contributing to the club's success with eight major trophies.
These accolades include two Premier League titles, a League Cup, one UEFA Champions League title, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, and an FA Cup.
In a statement, Liverpool expressed appreciation for Alexander-Arnold's contributions to the club's achievements as he prepares to leave Anfield.
According to reports, Liverpool will receive £10 million (approximately $13.4 million) from the transfer, with £8.4 million sourced from Real Madrid for the player's services, alongside savings on his salary for the remaining weeks of his contract.
Real Madrid's interest in Alexander-Arnold reportedly began in December of the previous year, prompting Liverpool to take precautions to safeguard the club's interests.
On May 5, Alexander-Arnold confirmed his departure from Liverpool, which elicited mixed reactions from the fans during subsequent matches.
However, the player received a warm farewell from the Anfield crowd during his final match of the season against Crystal Palace, where he remarked on the affection he felt from the supporters.
