Microsoft Acknowledges Support to Israel During Gaza Conflict
The company confirms provision of advanced AI and cloud services to Israeli military amid ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Microsoft has officially acknowledged that it sold advanced artificial intelligence and cloud computing services to the Israeli military during the conflict in Gaza.
The company noted that these services assisted in efforts to locate and rescue Israeli hostages.
However, Microsoft stated that it has not found any evidence to date that its Azure platform or AI technologies were used to target or harm individuals in Gaza.
This announcement represents the company's first public acknowledgment of its significant involvement in the conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.
The recognition follows a nearly three-month period since an investigation revealed previously unreported details about the close partnership between the American technology giant and the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
Following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, the military utilization of commercial AI products increased more than 200-fold.
Reports indicate that the Israeli military uses the Azure platform to copy, translate, and process intelligence gathered through mass surveillance.
This information is then cross-verified with Israel's internal AI targeting systems, enhancing operational capabilities in the context of ongoing military actions.
