Over 70 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Airstrikes on Gaza
Intense aerial bombardment strikes multiple locations in Gaza, resulting in significant civilian casualties and destruction.
More than 70 Palestinians, including women and children, have been reported killed in a series of intensive Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip early Thursday morning.
Medical sources and witness accounts indicate that many more are missing under the rubble, with rescue operations hampered by a lack of heavy equipment.
Mouhammed Bissal, a spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, estimated the death toll from the strikes at over 70, with dozens more injured since the morning.
He noted that "no area of the Strip is safe due to ongoing heavy bombings," emphasizing that the situation remains dire.
According to reports, Israeli aircraft conducted at least 20 airstrikes in just a few hours, targeting residential homes and tents sheltering displaced individuals across northern, southern, and central Gaza, resulting in widespread destruction.
The bombardment was particularly severe in Khan Younis and Rafah in the south, as well as Beit Lahia in the north and various areas within Gaza City.
Eyewitnesses reported that the airstrikes specifically targeted residences of Palestinian families in the Al-Fukhari neighborhood east of Khan Younis, while other areas such as Bani Suhaila and Abasan al-Kabira to the east of the city experienced heavy bombardment.
In the north of the Strip, Israeli artillery targeted areas in Beit Lahia, while airstrikes struck homes in the Al-Zuhur neighborhood and Abu Halima Street.
This pattern of bombardment indicates an ongoing military campaign by Israel, which has escalated its targeting of residential areas.
Simultaneously, violent attacks continue in eastern Gaza, with repeated explosions reported amid heavy artillery shelling in neighborhoods including Al-Shuja'iyya and Al-Zaitoun, as well as around the Nitsareem area.
The Israeli military has not provided immediate comments regarding these strikes.
This escalation coincides with stalled diplomatic efforts aimed at brokering a ceasefire agreement.
Recent rounds of negotiations mediated by Qatari and Egyptian officials have failed to yield any breakthroughs acceptable to both parties.
Israel has affirmed its resolve to continue military operations until its objectives are met, while Hamas maintains demands for a complete cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, positions that Israel has thus far rejected.
