The Qatari horse 'Hit Show' has been crowned champion of the 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup for the year 2025. The victory came after the horse finished first in the main race for Thoroughbreds, a Grade 1 event spanning 2000 meters on the sandy track at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, which took place on Saturday.
The Dubai World Cup is recognized as one of the richest horse racing events globally, with a total prize pool of $30.5 million for the evening.
The highlight of the event is the main race, which offers a prize of $12 million and features competition among 11 of the world's elite horses.
'Hit Show', ridden by jockey Florent Geroux and trained by Brad Cox, achieved victory in the final race for Thoroughbreds with a time of 2:03.50, finishing 0.64 lengths ahead of the nearest competitor, which earned the horse a first-place prize of $6.96 million from the total $12 million prize for that race.
Placing second was the American horse 'Mixteau', owned by Calumet Farm and ridden by Frankie Dettori, who received a monetary award of $2.4 million.
The Japanese horse 'Forever Young', owned by Susumu Fujita and ridden by Ryusei Sakai under the training of Yoshito Yahagi, claimed third place with a prize of $1.2 million.
Fourth place went to the Saudi horse 'Walk of Stars', owned by Al Adiyaat Stables and ridden by Michael Barzalona, under the guidance of trainer Bhupat Seemar.
Ali Al-Kubaisi, the director of racing at Wathnan Racing, acknowledged that the majority did not expect 'Hit Show' to be crowned in this prestigious event, despite optimistic predictions of a strong performance.
In statements made following the completion of the Dubai World Cup race, he expressed gratitude to everyone who supported their ascent to the podium, describing the race as a significant and thrilling event among a field of horses from around the world.
He noted the exceptional skill of jockey Florent Geroux, highlighting his capability of achieving victories.
