Shabab Al Ahli and Al Jazira Advance to UAE President's Cup Semi-Finals
Shabab Al Ahli and Al Jazira secure their places in the semi-finals of the UAE President's Cup with respective wins over Ajman and Al Ain.
Shabab Al Ahli progressed to the semi-finals of the UAE President's Cup after defeating Ajman 2-1 in a quarter-final match held at Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium, Sharjah.
The match, which took place yesterday evening, saw a sustained offensive from Shabab Al Ahli during the first half.
In the second half, the contest grew more intense.
Shabab Al Ahli opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a goal by Matheus Lima.
Ajman equalized in the 74th minute through a goal by Leozinho Silva, but Shabab Al Ahli quickly reclaimed the lead a minute later with a goal by Munas Dabbur, securing their place in the next round.
In another quarter-final fixture, Al Jazira overcame Al Ain with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a goal by Ramon Mirz in the 58th minute.
The match, described as somewhat below par, took place at the Zabeel Stadium.
It concluded with late match drawings, including the sending off of Bruno de Oliveira from Al Jazira and Kaku from Al Ain.
The competition continues today with a fixture between Al Wasl and Khor Fakkan scheduled for 6:30 PM at Al Sharjah Club Stadium in Samnan.
Khor Fakkan, aiming to avenge their previous 4-1 defeat to Al Wasl, secured their quarter-final spot after a convincing 3-0 victory over Al Bataeh.
The two teams have faced each other in the league's first round, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
They are set to meet again on the 30th of this month for the opening match of the second leg of the professional league.
The line-up for the semi-finals will be completed tomorrow as Baniyas hosts Sharjah at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 PM.
