Sharjah Announces Four-Day Holiday for Eid Al Adha 2025
Government employees in Sharjah will observe a holiday from June 5 to June 8 in celebration of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.
Sharjah's government will grant employees a four-day holiday from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8, 2025, in honor of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha, as announced by the Sharjah Human Resources Department.
Regular working hours will resume on Monday, June 9, with the exception of employees assigned to shift work.
Eid Al Adha, known as the 'Feast of Sacrifice,' is a significant religious observance for Muslims worldwide.
It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
This festival takes place on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, coinciding with the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
During Eid Al Adha, Muslims participate in prayers at mosques, visit relatives and friends, exchange gifts, and prepare festive meals.
The celebrations also emphasize charitable acts and community engagement, although specific traditions may vary across different cultures.
The Day of Arafat, preceding Eid Al Adha on the ninth of Dhu Al Hijjah, is a pivotal day during the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.
It is marked by significant congregational activities, where pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat, reflecting on spiritual teachings.
This day is notable as the occasion when Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered one of his final sermons.
For employees who are required to work during public holidays, compensation is mandated.
Employers must either grant a substitute day off or provide pay that exceeds the standard rate by at least 50% of the employee's basic salary for that day.
Additionally, the new labor regulations stipulate that all employees are entitled to one weekly day off, which does not necessarily align with weekends.
Should a public holiday coincide with a weekly day off, there are no additional days granted in compensation.
