Sharjah Police Foil Massive Drug Smuggling Operation: 3.5 Million Captagon Pills Seized
In a coordinated effort, UAE authorities successfully intercept a significant drug trafficking attempt, highlighting ongoing challenges in combatting substance abuse.
The Sharjah Police's Anti-Narcotics Department, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police and the Federal Anti-Narcotics Administration of the Ministry of Interior, has successfully thwarted an attempt to distribute over 3.5 million Captagon pills, in an operation named "Bottom of the Darkness."
According to Major General Majid Sultan Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, this operation led to the seizure of approximately 585 kilograms of Captagon, with a market value exceeding 19 million AED.
The operation was the result of extensive surveillance and investigative efforts, revealing that the perpetrators had concealed the narcotics deep underground, camouflaging them with synthetic interlocking flooring in an attempt to mislead law enforcement.
The analytical teams were able to uncover the criminal technique used and locate the hidden stash, ultimately apprehending the individuals involved in the drug trafficking network within the country.
Major General Al Asam emphasized that this initiative reflects the integration of strategic efforts, precise information gathering, and thorough investigations, allowing police teams to track the syndicate and identify their innovative smuggling and distribution methods.
He indicated that drug traffickers are resorting to deceptive methods in their attempts to spread narcotics, including leveraging social media platforms to target vulnerable demographics.
However, Al Asam assured that law enforcement agencies are fully equipped, thanks to advanced technologies and skilled personnel, to thwart such schemes decisively.
In a statement, he noted that all anti-narcotics departments across the nation have been informed about the criminal methods employed in this operation, reinforcing the federal efforts against drug smuggling and adapting to the rapidly evolving tactics of organized crime.
He remarked that drug traffickers relentlessly aim to target youth, drawing them into the depths of addiction, underscoring the necessity for proactive measures to expose the tactics they employ in their criminal agendas.
Major General Al Asam acknowledged that security successes are achievable only through collaborative efforts and expressed gratitude to the Federal Anti-Narcotics Administration for its coordinating role and to the Abu Dhabi Police for their collaboration in combating such crimes, which contribute significantly to community safety.
He reiterated the importance of societal involvement in supporting law enforcement efforts and encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities related to drugs via the national hotline at 8004654 or through the email dea@shjpolice.gov.ae.
He emphasized that public awareness and cooperation serve as the first line of defense against this societal threat and highlighted the crucial role of community education and family support in safeguarding youth from the perils of addiction.
