Sharjah Police Seize 3.5 Million Captagon Pills in Major Operation
Joint operation leads to significant drug bust worth over Dh19 million, targeting youth.
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Sharjah Police have seized 3.5 million Captagon pills, valued at over Dh19 million, in a joint operation named 'Bottom of Darkness'.
This operation was conducted in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police and the Federal Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior.
Authorities reported that the operation foiled an attempt to promote narcotics specifically aimed at young people.
Details revealed that the operation was a proactive measure against a criminal gang that had been under close surveillance.
The gang employed camouflage techniques to conceal the drugs, attempting to bury them underground and cover the hiding spot with interlock floor tiles to evade detection.
However, the efforts of the Sharjah Police's Anti-Narcotics Department, backed by advanced analysis teams, led to the successful uncovering of the hidden drugs.
Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, stated that approximately 585 kilograms of Captagon pills were seized during this operation.
He emphasized that the success of the operation was the result of precise intelligence gathering, teamwork, and extensive investigative efforts.
The operation included sharing insights about the gang's methodologies with all anti-narcotics units across the United Arab Emirates, reinforcing a unified federal effort to combat drug smuggling.
Brigadier Al Asam noted that drug dealers are increasingly using deceptive methods to reach out to potential young victims, including utilizing social media platforms.
The UAE police, equipped with advanced resources and trained personnel, have demonstrated their readiness to counter these evolving criminal tactics.
Brigadier Al Asam commended the cooperation between various law enforcement agencies, stating that such collaborative efforts serve as a model for responsible community safety.
He underscored the importance of public awareness and cooperation in reporting suspicious drug-related activities, urging individuals to utilize the hotline 8004654 or the email dea@shjpolice.gov.ae to report any concerns.
This call to action highlighted the vital role families and the wider society play in safeguarding youth from the perils of drug addiction.
In a related context, Dubai Police recently arrested a cyber gang involved in stealing banking data through fake links.
This gang reportedly used deceptive messages claiming affiliation with restaurants and delivery services to trick victims into revealing their financial information.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of public vigilance against such scams, urging residents to report any suspicious online activity.
A detailed security alert by the UAE Cybersecurity Council also warned about the rise of AI-driven cyberattacks, advising institutions and individuals to adopt stringent measures to protect personal data and safeguard against emerging cyber threats.
Furthermore, the UAE Public Prosecution has issued reminders about severe penalties for cybercrimes, emphasizing the necessity for constant vigilance across all sectors.
