Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed to Undertake Official Visit to India
Crown Prince of Dubai set for high-profile talks aimed at strengthening UAE-India ties.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates, is scheduled to begin an official visit to India on Tuesday.
According to reports from the Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Hamdan's trip will involve discussions with senior officials in New Delhi to expand partnerships between the UAE and India.
The UAE and India share a longstanding relationship supported by cultural and economic ties that were established with the formation of the Emirates.
Approximately four million Indian nationals reside in the UAE, representing the largest segment of the foreign population in the country.
Additionally, many prominent Indian business leaders have established operations in the Emirates.
Efforts to enhance collaboration have been evident across numerous sectors, including economics, education, and cultural exchange.
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed between the two countries in 2022 has resulted in bilateral trade exceeding $85 billion, making India the UAE's largest trading partner while positioning the UAE as India's third-largest trading partner.
Education initiatives have also taken root, with the first overseas branch of the Indian Institute of Technology having completed its inaugural year in Abu Dhabi.
Plans are underway to establish the first international branch of the Indian Institute of Management in Dubai.
On the cultural front, the Baps Hindu Mandir, the first hand-carved traditional stone and marble temple in the UAE, opened to the public in February 2024, drawing over 2.2 million visitors within its first year of operation.
Sheikh Hamdan's upcoming visit marks his most significant international engagement since his recent appointment as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence in July.
This trip is part of a broader pattern of official visits by UAE leadership to India aimed at exploring and enhancing bilateral relations.
Notably, President Sheikh Mohamed visited India in January last year for a global business summit and to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Last September, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, also visited India for dialogues with Mr. Modi.
The delegation accompanying Sheikh Hamdan will include key figures, such as Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports and Emirates airline; Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation; Abdulla bin Touq, Minister of Economy; and Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade.
Additionally, the delegation comprises senior officials and leaders from various economic sectors.
