Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Elected President of the National Olympic Committee

The election meeting held in Dubai marks a pivotal moment for the Olympic movement in the UAE.
Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been elected as the President of the National Olympic Committee for the Olympic period 2024-2028, following the conclusion of the election process as per the committee's bylaws and regulations approved by its Board of Directors.

This announcement was made during the ordinary general assembly of the National Olympic Committee convened today in Dubai.

Following his election, Sheikh Mansoor chaired the meeting, attended by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, the Minister of Sports and Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, and other members of the general assembly and the Board.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mansoor emphasized the importance of holding the presidency of national institutions as an "honor" that requires dedication and sincerity.

He acknowledged the trust placed in him by prominent national sports figures who have significantly contributed to the Olympic landscape in the UAE.

He praised their dedication to elevating the nation in the international sports arena without expectation of praise or acknowledgment.

He highlighted that the vision of Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, during his 16-year presidency of the National Olympic Committee has profoundly impacted the achievements of the national Olympic movement at various levels, establishing a lasting legacy for the Olympic movement in the UAE.

Sheikh Mansoor recognized the significant contributions of past Presidents of the National Olympic Committee since its establishment in 1979, noting their foundational role in the remarkable progress of the UAE's Olympic movement.

Sheikh Mansoor cited significant milestones, including the UAE's first Olympic gold medal in 2004, won by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Hasher Al Maktoum in double trap shooting, and the UAE's successful hosting of the SportAccord Convention in Dubai in 2010, the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Additionally, he referenced the 2018 victory at the Youth Olympic Games, where UAE equestrian Omar Al Marzooqi won a silver medal in show jumping, marking a new chapter for UAE athletes in Olympic history.

The meeting also included the approval of a decision by the International Olympic Committee to extend the term of the National Olympic Committee's Board for the Olympic period 2024-2028. The technical and administrative report for 2024 was adopted, alongside the strategic vision and plan for Olympic activities during the upcoming Olympic period.

This underscores the committee's active role as a key member of prominent continental and international sports organizations and its commitment to successful participation in events under their auspices.

Furthermore, the meeting resulted in the approval of the final accounts of the National Olympic Committee for the financial year 2024, as well as the budget projections for 2025 and financial reports concerning the Emirates Center for Sports Arbitration.

Faris Mohammed Al Mouta, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, presented an overview of the amendments to the Olympic Charter, updated on January 30. These amendments are significant in the context of the international Olympic movement, particularly concerning Olympic participation, qualifying criteria, and the rights to host and organize Olympic Games.

They also expand the roles of national Olympic committees in decisions regarding the selection of candidate cities for hosting Olympic events.

Following the general assembly meeting, Sheikh Mansoor attended the signing ceremony for the agreement on the hosting of national sports federations' headquarters at the new facilities of the National Olympic Committee in Dubai, which will accommodate 21 national sports federations across various individual and team sports.
