Sheikh Zayed Road Enhancements: Travel Time Reduced Significantly

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority completes upgrades, decreasing journey times on a major economic corridor.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced the completion of significant traffic enhancements along Sheikh Zayed Road, a crucial economic artery in the emirate.

These improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and reduce travel times significantly, with certain segments now allowing for a journey that takes just two minutes, down from previously five minutes.

Key upgrades include the expansion of the service road near the Financial Centre Metro Station for traffic heading towards Abu Dhabi.

This expansion increased the number of lanes from three to four, effectively boosting the road capacity by 25%, thereby accommodating up to 3,200 vehicles per hour, an increase from the former capacity of 2,400 vehicles per hour.

The improvements have successfully minimized congestion at the entrance and eliminated queues, streamlining the traffic flow.

In addition to this, RTA has optimized the traffic merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street for vehicles heading into Dubai.

This extension has eased congestion, resulting in a reduction of journey time from four minutes to three minutes in this area.

According to Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, these enhancements are part of a broader initiative aimed at improving traffic flow across Dubai’s extensive road network.

"RTA remains committed to enhancing traffic flow across Dubai, particularly on Sheikh Zayed Road," Al Khzaimy stated.

He emphasized the authority's focus on providing seamless and safe travel experiences for all motorists.

The enhancements are intended to optimize the efficiency of Dubai's road systems, improve traffic efficiency, alleviate congestion at critical intersections, and augment overall road capacity, all while adhering to stringent safety standards.

These developments are part of RTA's ongoing strategy to implement innovative traffic solutions to accommodate the city's rapid urban growth and expansion.

Earlier in January, RTA had already introduced three major traffic improvements on Sheikh Zayed Road, aiming to enhance safety and ease congestion in this vital region.
