Sheikha Al Nuaimi Becomes First Female Secretary-General of UN World Tourism Organization

In a notable achievement for the United Arab Emirates, Sheikha Al Nuaimi has been elected as the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the term from 2026 to 2029. This election marks a historic first, as she becomes the first woman to hold this position since the organization's establishment in 1975.
The election took place with the participation of representatives from 35 countries, highlighting broad support for Sheikha Al Nuaimi's candidacy and the recognized role of the UAE in advancing global tourism initiatives.
The election results reflect the growing confidence in Emirati expertise and leadership within international frameworks.

Sheikha Al Nuaimi graduated from Zayed University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specializing in Finance.
Over the past five years, she has received several accolades, including awards for best hotel brand in the Middle East at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards for 2021, 2022, and 2024, as well as the award for best business hotel chain in the Middle East at the Business Traveller UK Awards for 2022, 2023, and 2024. Additionally, she was recognized on the Forbes Middle East list of the top 100 sustainable companies in the region as a leader in sustainability for 2023.
