Tragic Bus Accident in Khor Fakkan Claims Nine Lives, Dozens Rescued

In a harrowing incident in the city of Khor Fakkan, a bus carrying workers overturned, leading to the tragic death of nine individuals and injuries to numerous others.
The accident, which involved a total of 83 occupants from various Asian and Arab nationalities, occurred due to a brake malfunction, highlighting concerns about vehicle maintenance and road safety standards.
According to the Sharjah Police General Command, emergency services responded swiftly to the accident site at Wadi Washi Square, which serves as an entrance to Khor Fakkan.
Their rapid intervention enabled the rescue of 73 passengers, who were provided with first aid before being transported to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.
Brigadier General Dr. Ali Al Kai Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, indicated that the operations room received an emergency call on Sunday evening about the bus accident.
Police, along with civil defense teams and the national ambulance service, were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, they encountered multiple fatalities and injuries of varying severities, from serious to moderate and minor.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a failure in the bus’s braking system was the primary cause of the accident.
This mechanical malfunction resulted in the driver's loss of control, causing the vehicle to overturn at the right exit of the city’s entrance.
In the wake of this tragedy, the Sharjah Police General Command has urged all road users to adhere to traffic laws and safety standards.
They emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly for commercial and public transport vehicles, to prevent such accidents.
Furthermore, they advised caution when driving through tunnels, curves, and intersections, and reiterated the importance of staying focused on the road.
