UAE and Israel Discuss Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Amid Ongoing Crisis
Sheikh Abdullah and Gideon Saar agree on urgent aid delivery as charity initiatives ramp up support for Gazans.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Gideon Saar, Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs, have engaged in discussions regarding the urgent need for humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza.
In a phone call reported by Wam, both officials reached a consensus on the necessity of enabling the "urgent, sustainable, safe and unhindered" entry of assistance into the besieged enclave.
The dialogue highlighted that humanitarian aid from the UAE would initially target approximately 15,000 civilians in Gaza, addressing critical food shortages amid the ongoing conflict.
The leaders recognized the importance of international mediation efforts in facilitating a truce and in the potential release of remaining hostages currently held in Gaza.
In response to the worsening humanitarian situation, a Sharjah-based charity organization has commenced a project aimed at delivering fresh bread to Gaza.
This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader Gallant Knight 3 campaign, which was initiated by President Sheikh Mohamed to support civilians in Gaza.
The project has been allocated a monthly budget of Dh750,000, orchestrated by the Sharjah Charity International as an emergency measure.
Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, the executive director of the charity, emphasized that the initiative will prioritize the most vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and displaced families, who are enduring dire conditions due to the ongoing crisis.
The new bakery initiative is projected to provide bread to 20,000 individuals daily, positioning it as one of the largest food aid projects currently operating in Gaza, a region suffering from severe shortages and limited bakery operations.
Bin Khadim noted that the project aims not only to meet essential daily needs but also to preserve the dignity of the affected populations.
The charity has facilitated a straightforward donation process to encourage public support for the bakery program, allowing contributions through various methods including Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, SMS, or via their official website.
Additionally, cash donations are being accepted at charity offices, mosques, and retail locations.
In conjunction with the bakery project, the charity has launched a fundraising campaign with a target of Dh2.6 million for sustaining vital projects in Gaza.
Of this sum, Dh1.2 million will be directed towards drilling 12 new wells for clean water, which is expected to benefit over 312,000 people, while Dh1.4 million will fund community kitchens.
Together, these efforts are anticipated to provide daily assistance to more than 45,000 individuals in need.
