UAE Central Bank Introduces New Dh100 Banknote Ahead of Eid Al Fitr
The new polymer banknote features innovative designs and advanced security features, reflecting the UAE's cultural heritage and aspirations.
Abu Dhabi: The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) announced on Monday the launch of a new Dh100 banknote, strategically timed ahead of the Eid Al Fitr holiday.
This polymer banknote, which is part of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, incorporates advanced designs and enhanced security features.
The front of the new Dh100 banknote features the Um Al Quwain National Fort, recognized as a significant historical and cultural monument.
Meanwhile, the reverse side depicts the Port of Fujairah.
The design also highlights the Etihad Rail, a railway network that connects the seven Emirates of the UAE and extends to neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The banknote displays various shades of red while preserving the color characteristics of the existing Dh100 denomination for public recognition.
Beginning March 24, the new banknote will be circulated alongside the current Dh100 note.
Banks and exchange houses have been directed to update their cash deposit machines and counting devices accordingly to ensure the seamless acceptance of the new banknotes alongside existing paper and polymer varieties.
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, stated that the new banknote reflects the UAE's commitment to sustainable development and the national vision aimed at enhancing financial competitiveness.
Balama remarked that its design represents the country’s ambitions for future progress while also honoring its historical and cultural heritage.
The announcement coincides with the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr, underscoring its significance in the national calendar.
The Dh100 banknote is equipped with various advanced security measures designed to prevent counterfeiting.
CBUAE also highlighted that polymer notes are more durable and sustainable compared to traditional paper banknotes, lasting two or more times longer in circulation.
In consideration of accessibility, the new banknote includes prominent Braille symbols to assist blind and visually impaired individuals in identifying its value.
Recently, the CBUAE received the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the High-Security Printing EMEA conference for its Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer banknotes, further establishing its reputation in the field of currency innovation.
