UAE Floating Hospital Celebrates Eid Al Adha with Gaza Patients
Event brings joy to children and patients amid ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The UAE floating hospital based in Al Arish, Egypt, organized a celebration for children and patients from Gaza to mark Eid Al Adha, providing a rare moment of joy during a time of conflict.
The initiative was coordinated by medical staff, volunteers, and support teams, featuring activities such as face painting, games, and the distribution of Eid gifts to both patients and their families.
Dr. Omran Mohammed Alefari, director of the UAE floating hospital, emphasized the initiative's role in delivering psychological support and rehabilitative therapy to those receiving care aboard the hospital vessel.
"It is important to provide a comprehensive medical and supportive environment for the patients, especially in such days," he stated, highlighting the significance of boosting morale and happiness for patients and their families.
The floating hospital, which is equipped with 100 beds, began its mission by setting sail from the UAE in February 2022. It is currently docked at Al Arish port and is part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. Receiving patients through the Rafah border crossing, the hospital operates under a humanitarian effort mandated by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, aimed at supporting Palestinians affected by ongoing conflict.
Since commencing operations, the floating hospital has provided medical services to thousands of patients in dire need.
It has performed over 3,600 surgical procedures across various specialities and offered physical therapy services to approximately 9,500 individuals.
Furthermore, the hospital has fitted 23 prosthetic limbs for patients who have suffered severe injuries.
The establishment of the hospital is a collaborative effort involving the UAE’s Ministry of Defence, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi Ports Authority.
The facility is staffed by about 100 medical and administrative professionals with expertise in fields such as anaesthesia, general surgery, orthopaedics, and emergency services.
